EMA’s manga preview publication has gone online! Available in flash format, you can check out summaries of upcoming series and a wide variety of sample pages.
To see the info regarding global manga works, enter the following page numbers into “Gehe zu”:
5: Gott Gauss, a three volume work by Bruno Cotting & Viviane.
6: Musouka, a two volume boys’ love work by Diana Liesaus.
7 or 8: Drama CDs of Catwalk and Mon-Star Attack.

Also mentioned are a number of changes to the release schedule.
Moved to Summer 2008: Gott Gauss 2 and Independent 3.
Pushed back: Mon-Star Attack CDs, Fight!, Freaky Angel 2, and Without Identity 3.

Also of interest is a new manga-style tarot deck that’s being released with art by Viviane. The deck is coming out from publishing house Urania (well-known for their card decks), and sample images can be seen on Viviane’s portfolio site. “I had to draw all of 78 cards. What a huge amount of work!”

Dystopia Bag

December 6, 2007

064_dystopia_tuete.jpgGerman publishers continue to prove that they’re much more willing than American pubs when it comes to selling merchandise of their global series. Carlsen has come up with a Dystopia-themed bag, and are promoting it through Daisuki, the monthly anthology the series was originally serialized in. Sign up for a year of Daisuki, and get a limited edition bag with art from Judith Park’s first series!

Tokyopop updates

May 17, 2007

To start things off, here’s Tokyopop’s release calendar for the next few months:

May 2007:
Grimms Manga – Keiko Ishiyama
Iscel v3 – Detta Zimmermann
Yaru v1 – Lime Manga

July 2007:
Yonen Buzz v3 – Christina Plaka

September 2007:
Gothic Sports v3 – Anike Hage
Gothic Sports 2008 Calendar
Kleiner Thor v1 – Kim Schmidt & Patrick Wirbeleit

November 2007:
Evergrey v2 – Lime Manga

Of note is Yaru v1– Splashcomics has put up a special article, so German readers should check it out. Also of note… the upcoming Gothic Sports calendar! We haven’t been able to find any note of it other than its presence on Amazon, but we’ll let you know when we get more information.

And I’m sure some of you are getting sick of hearing about Gothic Sports in the US… well, we’re not shutting up about it quite yet. Here’s another review of volume 1 from!

The title may not be able to keep momentum going but this is a strong start — and of course, I like the uniforms. I’m giving Gothic Sports 4 marks out of 5.

What we’re most confused about is the repeated mention of “girls soccer team” floating around… Last we checked, there were at least 3 guys on Anya’s team, right? Maybe we just missed something, heh…

EMA’s posted their fall/winter program in their forums, and there’s some exciting news. It looks like there’s a new single-volume manga in the works. The summary is from EMA’s pdf preview.

Fight – Kim Liersch & Roda Makmod (DiM€)
March 2008 – €6.00
ISBN: 978-3-7704-6859-1

Tatsuro is a guy who can do everything… until one day, when he has his first bitter failure. Of all people, it’s a little girl who shows the self-obsessed kendo fighter that there are more important things in life than winning. Friends, for example, and the feeling of doing something good. DiM€ is made up of Roda Makmod and Kim Liersch from Wuppertal. FIGHT is their fast-paced manga debut, and it’s easily better than some Japanese works!

Musouka v2 and Gott Gauss v2 should both be coming out in March as well.

The most interesting news is the planned release of four “audio cds”– we’re assuming these are much like the Japanese “drama cds” that are sometimes released. The pdf preview linked above has cover art for those interested! The Cologne Cocomico Team does these CDs in cooperation with EMA.

Gothic Sports News

April 22, 2007

Gothic Sports volume three should be coming out this September– you can see a preview of the cover here. With the cover comes a big announcement:

As some of you may have already noticed, Gothic Sports is now appearing as a color comic in a newspaper insert for the daily papers of the WAZ Group, with a total print run of 1.1 million. This should definitely make Anike Hage the biggest European manga-artist with the biggest audience.

To celebrate, we will provide any book handlers who order a large amount of book 3 with cool cell-phone cleaners, which can be passed out for free with the books. Be sure to ask your book stores to take part ahead of time, so you can get one of the desired goodies.

More news about Gothic Sports is promised in the next newsletter!

Tokyopop March Newsletter

March 19, 2007

For those interested in the Gothic Sports & Pink Psycho/In the End merchandise, a picture was released with the Tokyopop Newsletter, and can be seen here.

Those same two series are also the first German manga to be released… in Japanese.  They’ve joined the ranks of a number of US-Tokyopop series, and are now being released on mobile phones in Japan.  Yonen Buzz and Summer Rain should both soon join them.

Last but not least, a preview of Yaru is now available on the Tokyopop site’s Manga Player.  Also up is more Grimms Manga.

Tokyopop will sell a small limited edition of merchandise for their series Gothic Sports by Anike Hage and In the End by Pink Psycho at next weekend’s Leipzig Bookfair in order to test the market.  AnimeY reports that there will be sweat bands and patches for both Gothic Sports and In the End as well as a Gothic Sports ball. Fans should be quick, as the supply is limited!
